Alex Blakey is a contemporary glass sculptor and mixed media artist who takes her inspiration from urban landscapes, nature and heritage.
Her artwork aims to evoke memories and encourage curiosity and introspection. Each work tells a unique story. She is passionate about the interconnection between the lives of all living things from human stories and histories to the tales woven into the forests and hills she walks through. In her glasswork she aims to capture moments time like ghosts from the past, whilst much of her mixed media work looks deeper at individual moments in the present and the many possibilities of the future.
Alongside her arts practice she has been working in the field of arts for wellbeing for over 10 years. She delivers community arts workshops and specialist arts for wellbeing sessions throughout the country alongside 1:1 sessions in her studio. She is passionate about the power of art in aiding recovery and offering space. Through tailor made sessions she aims to encourage open communication, material exploration and time to reflect.
